The EZ Bubble Dancer (EZBD) is a quick-building version of the legendary Bubble Dancer designed by Dr. Mark Drela. Featuring pre-cut carbon fiber tube spars and spar caps, CNC-cut ribs and trailing edges, and a roomy and strong fuselage suitable for TD or electric, the EZBD will get you the performance of the original BD in a fraction of the time.

Designed by Dr. Drela, it’s still very much a “Drela” plane, but with the Polecat style of “strength where there needs to be strength”. The EZBD can handle full-pedal winch launches with “zoom” endings and still dance on bubbles like its sister ship.

The kit comes with everything you need to get started (save for glue):

  • CNC cut ribs and trailing edges
  • Carbon fiber tube spars and spar caps
  • Kevlar ribbon for spar wrapping
  • Pre-bent aluminum wing joiners
  • All sheeting, leading edge material, end-grain balsa shear webs
  • Fiberglass and carbon-fiber fuselage
  • Carbon fiber tailboom
  • Full-flying “v-mount” for elevator
  • Carbon fiber pushrods in pre-etched teflon tubing
  • Detailed instruction manual with photos
  • Bolts, plywood, control horns and all that good stuff…

Recommended equipment: Two Hitec HS85MG (metal gear) servos for rudder and elevator, a Hitec HS81 for the spoiler and an appropriate receiver and battery. The estimated all-up weight (AUW) for this model is 42-44oz.

Download the EZBD Instruction Manual (DRAFT) (59 pages, full color, 15MB PDF)!
Right-click and choose “Save Target As…” to save this file to your desktop. The manual will print on regular 8.5″ x 11″ paper!

The kit comes with all the plans on one big sheet, but you can also download the individual plans. These are intended to be printed out on 8.5″ x 11″ sheets butted together. When printing, make sure you have set the page scaling to “none” or 100% to ensure that the sizing is correct.
