Joining the Wings (cont.)

Joining the Halves

We are now ready to bond the two halves of the wing together! Turn the cores upside down and place a strip of masking tape over the joint. Turn upright and place one panel flat on the table with the tip of the opposite panel blocked up 6-1/2?. You should have a good snug fit at the panel joint.

Mix 5 minute epoxy with microballoons, open up the joint and glue making sure to get complete coverage without filling the wire channel with epoxy. Prop the wing tip back up. A fair amount of epoxy will squeeze out and can be removed with a paper towel. Make sure panels are properly aligned with each other and allow to cure. You may also want to weigh down the panels to ensure they don’t move.

Epoxy should ooze out of the joint, so be sure to wipe away excess with a paper towel. To save time, you could also just masking tape the areas where epoxy might bubble out.
