XP-4 / XP-4.5

The XP-4 discus-launched glider is the next step in the evolution of the discus-launch glider from Polecat Aero. Building on the huge success of the XP-3 discus-launch glider, we have considerably enhanced an already great flying glider.

New Fuselage

Brand-new carbon-kevlar fuselage designed to address the issue of intersection drag and to gain the aerodynamic advantages of Dr. Mark Drela’s SuperGee design. The fuselage now transitions to a wide airfoil-shaped pylon mount for solid wing mounting. Plenty of room in this fuselage, too! Microscope and tweezers not required!

Pre-installed Boom and Teflon pushrod housings

Tail weight is a major factor for any glider, and the super-light Teflon pushrod housings give you the lightest and most slop-free channel for your pushrods.

Redesigned Tail Surfaces

Re-designed tail surfaces allow another weight savings without compromising the control authority that the XP-3 is famous for. A removable stabilizer is standard equipment. The vertical stabilizer has been re-designed for better damping and allows maximum launch height.

XP-4.5

In late 2005, Polecat Aero launched another version of the already sucessful XP-4 — the XP-4.5! So what exactly is in that extra .5?

Wing & Tail

The XP-4.5 has a slightly wider root chord and a slightly narrower tip chord, as well as a more rounded tip shape. The XP-4.5 has slightly larger tailfeathers for even more dampening and super high launches.

Overall

For folks who fly with a very rearward CG, the XP-4.5 should provide a little more forgiveness for less than perfect thumbs in very marginal conditions. Extremely light lift, just hangin on the edge of a stall, etc. There is little enough difference between the planes to call it a new plane or even a different model. Just a variation of the XP-4. It’s as simple as that.
